Winter Nights: Kiss Me Deadly

(dir. R. Aldrich, 1955, USA, 106 mins., NR)
Regarded by many critics as the ultimate film noir for its black-as-pitch plot and stark visual style, Kiss Me Deadly stars Ralph Meeker as Mickey Spillane’s misanthropic private eye Mike Hammer. After trying to rescue a blonde hitchhiker on the road one night, Hammer is drawn into investigating a murder and the whereabouts of a mysterious box also sought by atomic age spies. A perfectly dark Cold War-era thriller, Kiss Me Deadly has been called the most apocalyptic, nihilistic, sci-fi film noir of all time. Feature preceded by the Warner Brothers cartoon Super Snooper (1952).

Film shown in 35 mm.
