Winter Nights: Memento

The Toby

(dir. C. Nolan, 2000, USA, 110 mins., R)
Despite his amnesia, Leonard (Guy Pearce) is determined to seek justice after the murder of his wife; copious note-taking, Polaroids and tattoos are his only way of keeping track of a day’s events. This breakthrough film by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight), adapted from a short story, is a philosophical neo-noir structured like an Escher puzzle and is noted for its dual colliding narratives, one in color and the other black-and-white. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Editing; also starring Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Film shown in DVD.
