The curatorial department conducts research that supports the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, contributing valuable scholarship to the field of art history. Areas of focus include African Art; European Painting and Sculpture to 1945; Ancient Art of the Americas; Ancient Art of the Mediterranean; Asian Art; Contemporary Art; Decorative Arts; Design Arts; Native American Art, Oceanic Art; Prints, Drawings, and Photographs; Textiles and Fashion Arts; and the IMA’s historical properties. Though the nature of each project may vary, curators at the IMA work closely with both internal and external collaborators on research that shapes initiatives within the museum and beyond its walls.
