The vision that project director Dr. Sabiha Al Khemir had for this exhibition and catalogue, unites art with culture through the examination of three inclusive themes: The Word, Figures and Figurines, and Pattern. Masterpieces and modest works from the seventh century to the present day are brought together to bring new insights to the forces that unify this body of diverse works and to highlight the implications those insights have upon our efforts to build bridges between the Islamic World and the West.
