17th Annual Spirit & Place Public Conversation

Exploring the theme PLAY from November 1-11, this year’s Spirit & Place Festival will close with a conversation among three visionary people. Game designer Jane McGonigal, minister and comedian Susan Sparks, and Grammy-winning cellist David Darling will combine (and showcase) their talents to examine the role of play in our individual and communal life.

About the speakers

Jane McGonigal, bestselling author of Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World, is a game designer who harnesses the power of Internet games for public good.

Susan Sparks is a professional comedian, pastor of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in New York City, and author of Laugh Your Way to Grace: Reclaiming the Spiritual Power of Humor.

David Darling, raised in Indiana, is an innovative cellist whose improvisational mixes of jazz, pop, rock, country and New Age have earned international respect and several honors including two Grammy awards.
