The Basics of Summer Nights at the IMA
Where?
The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Fridays, June 5 to August 28, 2009.
When?
Doors open at 6:00 pm for picnicking and Sunset BBQs, films begin at dusk—except on July 24 when doors open at 10:00 pm for a midnight showing.
How much?
Tickets are only available at the door. Public $9, Members $5
Members must present current membership cards for discount. Children six and under are admitted for free.
Three important things to keep in mind:
1. The amphitheater is a non-smoking venue.
2. Concessions, including popcorn, water, wine and beer, are available for purchase. Tickets for Sunset BBQs, beginning July 3, are also available and include film admission. (See below)
3. Come early! Enjoy the beautiful gardens or wander through the galleries (open until 9 pm)!
How do I get my grill on? Sunset BBQs!
Beginning July 3 for select films, the upper level of the Outdoor Terrace will have a cash bar and barbecue buffet, featuring freshly grilled burgers and dogs, summer salads, refreshing beverages and watermelon, cookies and treats from 6:00-8:30 pm (cash bar opens at 5:30 pm). Tickets include film admission to Summer Nights and are $30 for the public and $25 for members; Children (6-10 yrs) cost $18 for the public and $12 for members.
For reservations, call 317-923-1331, ext. 235. Tickets can be picked up at Will Call at 5:00 pm on the evening of the film. Tickets are non-refundable, but eligible for a rain check in the event of a film cancellation.
What can I bring?
Feel free to bring any of these:
Dates, co-workers, mothers-in-law, and your fun friends
A picnic with non-alcoholic beverages only*
A blanket and/or lawn chairs
Bug repellent. Citronella candles are permitted as long as they are shorter than 12 inches
*NEW POLICY CHANGE: No outside alcohol will be permitted. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase on-site. Bag and cooler checks will begin Friday, July 3.
What should I leave at home?

Pets
Candles taller than 12 inches
Grills
Outside alcohol

I heard on the news that it might rain.
Films will be canceled in the event of rain, snow, tornado, typhoon or grizzly bear attack. Film status can be confirmed after 4:00 pm on the day of the film. NEW! Sign up to get text alerts if the film rains out or sells out - Text "IMA" to 75667. (Standard messages charges apply.) Or call 317-923-1331, check the IMA Web site, or tune into 92.3 WTTS. No refunds or rain checks will be offered.
(Don’t worry, even if the film is rained out, there’s still plenty of stuff to do inside the Museum.)
