Kitchen Garden Renaissance
The Toby
Join herb specialist Susan Belsinger for this informative and entertaining program on the revival of the kitchen garden.
She will detail the garden’s role in history - from backyard necessity to palatial ornament, sized from small to large, and maintained from fairly natural to well-kempt. Susan will talk about working from the ground up—beginning with preparing the soil, making compost, and sowing seed—to what kind of amendments are needed to grow different crops from the grey and green Mediterranean herbs to vegetables and annual flowers and herbs. The end result of gardening is the bountiful harvest, and she will discuss and show farmers’ markets and organic produce from backyard gardens.
