Perspectives on Collecting Design: The George Kravis II Industrial Design Collection
DeBoest Lecture Hall | Free
Over the last decade, Oklahoma-based philanthropist and collector George Kravis II has gathered a stunning personal collection of Art Deco and Moderne industrial design: from radios and telephones to cocktail shakers. "There isn’t a single day goes by without reading, acquiring, or getting involved with my collection. Design plays a central role in my daily life," says Kravis. In conjunction with the reinstallation of the Lawrence A. and Ann O’Connor, Jr. Gallery, the IMA’s new 20th-century design arts gallery, hear a conversation between Kravis and David A. Hanks, curator for the Kravis collection, and co-author of Design for Living and American Streamlined Design. Discussion moderated by R. Craig Miller, Senior Curator of Design Arts and Director of Design Initiatives at IMA.
DAS member reception in the IMA Welcome Center at 5 pm. Presented by the IMA Design Arts Society.
